Apply for funding
MIVA supports projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America with means of transport and communication. We focus on children’s rights, women(‘s rights), human rights, freedom of the press and healthcare. Find out more about our criteria for funding.
Criteria for funding
Every year, we receive approximately 1000 applications for support. Given our limited financial resources we can only meet a small part of these requests. The applications are therefore carefully assessed according to our criteria:
- Local and practical
The project is small-scaled with a large positive impact on the local community. Besides that it is practical and feasible.
- Co-financing
The applicant is obligated to contribute at least 25% of the purchase by means of transport and/or communication. The contribution shows MIVA that the organization has a stable financial base. The applicant will take care of costs for import, maintenance, fuel, insurance and running costs.
- Verifiable
During a period of three years, the applicant is required to report to MIVA yearly on the progress of and the developments in the project.

How to apply for funding?
MIVA is financing means of transport and communication to pioneers that work in the local community organisation which has an aim to help marginalized and disadvantaged people in resource-poor communities in Africa, Asia and Latin-America. Through its collaboration with the Liliane Foundation since 2015, MIVA is contributing to the goal of an inclusive society by reaching community-based organisations that are supporting excluded and marginalized groups in society and improve their position in the communities where they live.
In order to provide the means of transport and communication in a more programmatic, structural and inclusive way, all MIVA expenses are being managed by the local strategic partner organisations of MIVA and the Liliane Foundation since 2018.
It is not possible to apply for funding directly at MIVA. More information about the partner organisations can be found on the website of the Liliane Foundation.
